Under the direction of the Assistant TX Manufacturing Manager, Winder Level 3 will wind coils using winding machine in accordance with work instructions and mechanical drawings/schematics, manufacturing procedures, and quality procedures. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Operates winding machines to wind simple transformers, SRV’s, chokes, air cores, and balance reactors. 
  • Uses normal tools, such as a soldering iron, scissors, knives, cutters, saws, hammers, mallets, and power saws.

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful completion of projects by collaborating and leading company departments. 

 Responsibilities: 

  • Oversight of multiple projects 
  • Direct Kick-Off Meeting to confirm project scope, customer need-by dates, hi-level schedule and labor budget hours and revenue milestones.

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

Position Summary: The Power Supply Mechanical Design be the lead designer for high power rectifiers and power supply products. The IPS Mechanical Design Engineer will work with the team to mechanically design power supply products on time and within budget, while following the customer specifications, industry standards and direction from the electrical and project engineers. The IPS Mechanical Design Engineer will have direct design responsibilities using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software programs (and Vault) to design the mechanical envelope and system layouts for rectifiers and power supplies. 

Responsibilities:

  • Will need leading-edge knowledge of all mechanical design aspects of high-power Industrial Power Supplies and rectifier topologies in applications from 5kAdc to 100kAdc, including  enclosures, rectifier power section, controls section, plumbing section, AC and DC bus bars and supports.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team of mechanical designers in support of company objectives, including but not limited to budget hours, budget material costs, and schedules.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of project status into the MRP system and to the general manager.
  • Use Autodesk Inventor 3D (and 2D) programs to create customer and manufacturing documentation, including bills of materials, part and component models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, schematics, flow diagrams, piping assemblies, outline drawings and installation drawings.

Under the Direction of Rectifier Team Leader, an Electro-Mechanical Assembler II will perform the following tasks listed below. May be required to perform other manufacturing duties as needed. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assembling and installing electro-mechanical components for large transformer/rectifiers, including building the complete unit as part of the production team.
  • An EMA is also required to assemble and install complex electro/mechanical components prototypes.

AMSC is seeking an experienced rotating electric machines engineer for focused project work. The successful candidate will work directly with an engineering-based team to develop advanced superconducting rotating machinery for military and commercial applications.   The successful candidate will have a strong background in rotating machinery mechanical analysis, design, and manufacturing practices. The rotating machines engineer is expected to assist in responsibility of machine design, supervise machine fabrication and be involved with machine testing, therefore, a demonstrated ability to drive detailed design packages through fabrication and floor assembly and test is a definite plus.  Technical knowledge of superconductor function and application is also a plus but not necessary.  The candidate should have extensive knowledge of rotational machinery industrial standards.  

Functions:

  • The candidate will use experience in rotating machine design, manufacture and test to develop next generation superconducting rotating machinery for the military and commercial application.
  • The candidate will be familiar with electric machine modeling for mechanical analysis including but not limited to structural analysis for strength, fatigue, and modal analysis.  This will include static and dynamic modeling of electric machines in 2 and 3D.

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

AMSC is seeking a Senior Network Planning & Application Engineer to support Business Development, Sales and Engineering of AMSC Products and Solutions. The ideal candidate for this tole will be an industry advocate for AMSC technologies and solutions.  

  • Performs power systems analyses pertaining to transmission and distribution system expansion, voltage stability, reliability and power quality and derives technical solution options to meet customers’ requirements.
  • Performs detailed analysis of industrial power quality problems and designs/recommends appropriate solutions.
  • Uses network analysis software to perform detailed load flow, transient stability, electromagnetic transient studies in assessing system requirements and appropriate solution options (using either current or innovative new technologies).
  • Develops, maintains and provides support for software models for all products.
  • Performs or supports insulation coordination, arc flash and transient overvoltage studies.
  • Actively participates in the existing product development and new product market needs analysis. Undertakes detailed application and design studies for AMSC’s products including FACTS systems, power electronic converters, energy storage solutions, fault current limiters and high capacity superconductor cable systems.
  • Actively works to build relationships with utility planners and engineers, and consultants in the industry.
  • Assists in development of competitive proposals that improves transmission and distribution system capacity while reducing transmission system costs.  Proposals need to include technical as well as commercial analysis.
  • Performs appropriate economic evaluations of transmission and distribution system expansion plans to accompany technical evaluations of recommended alternatives.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the current developments in the overall energy sector, particularly in the generation and transmission areas, in regards to legislative trends and requirements and how they can affect AMSC’s business goals.
  • Prepares and delivers technical papers and presentations for trade shows and technical conferences.
  • Assists with training of new/junior engineers on Power System topics, review their work, and provide supervision as necessary

Education – Experience:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in the power sector (emphasis in power systems analysis, specifications, design and/or operation). Prior power utility, transmission and distribution planning experience preferred.
  • Theoretical background on power systems analysis, specifically load flow, transient stability, harmonic analysis and electromagnetic transients.

Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of network analysis software to perform load flow, stability, reliability, and power quality analysis using a major network analysis software such as Siemens PSS®E or GE PSLF. Working knowledge of any additional software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, ATP-EMTP, EMTP-RV, SKM PowerTools, Powertech’s DSATools, Easy Power and PowerWorld preferred.
  • Understanding of power electronic devices, controls and systems, FACTS devices and their applications in utility and industrial environment.
  • Ability to develop and/or modify/adapt loadflow, stability, and EMTP software models for AMSC’s products.
  • Proficiency in a programming language (Fortran and/or Python preferred).

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

Assemble, modify, test, and adjust custom mechanical assemblies and apparatus applying knowledge of various assembly techniques and referring to shop drawings and instructions.

Functions:

  • Lifting to 75 pounds may be required.
  • Read and understand blueprints, drawings, wiring diagrams, mechanical prints, assembly and schematic drawings, and receive verbal instructions on work to be performed.
  • Fasten, align, and mount parts, components, relays, using hand and power tools. Route and terminate cables.
  • Attach hardware using nuts, bolts, rivets, screws, or other methods. Cut, bend, grind, de-burr, and mount bus bar.
  • Examine parts/ components that are installed to verify they are free from damage and defects. Notify supervisor if found.
  • Operate basic hand tools, saws, punches, grinders, drills.
  • Clean equipment, wipe clean, vacuum, or blow out metal chips and dirt. Perform work duties as assigned.
  • Clean up shop area of tools and work at the end of each shift.

Education – Experience:

  • Must have a have a high school/ GED degree
  • Be able operate basic hand tools
  • Lifting, bending, climbing ladders will be routine
  • Prior mechanical fabrication experience

  • Install components such as disconnect switches, ground switch, relays, vacuum switches, interlocks, windows, door-stays, locks, capacitors, fuses, reactors, CT’s, PT’s, CPT’s, ground bus, phase bus, conductors, insulators, hardware, etc. 
  • Maintain proper clearances phase-to-phase and phase-to­ ground. 
  • Ensure properly rated conductors, wire, lugs are utilized. 
  • Perform process audits as requested.
